The Sun-Sentinel, Palm Beach County, Florida, reports that the county has tied for the second highest recycling rate in the state as of 2015 following the installation of a new waste-to-energy plant in June 2015.
Palm Beach tied with Hillsborough County, both of which had at a recycling rate of 72 percent. Pinellas County had the highest rate at 89 percent, the article says.
Palm Beach County received recycling credits from the state for its new incinerator, despite protests against what is seen as a non-traditional form of recycling.
A report from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, however, found Palm Beach County actually recycled only 42 percent of its waste when waste to energy was not factored in.
