Dubai, United Arab Emirates- (UAE-) based Waste & Recycling Middle East and Africa held a ceremony in Dubai in late November to honor recipients of the fourth edition of its Middle East Waste & Recycling Awards (MEWAR).
The awards honored individuals and organizations in 17 different categories related to the environmental sector, the publication says. “We are also pleased that the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has recognized” the awards program, Waste & Recycling Middle East and Africa adds.
The awards ceremony was attended by award winners, nominees and their supporters, as well as by government officials from several departments.
Apart from winners in 17 categories, Waste & Recycling Middle East and Africa says it also recognized the Dawoodi Bohras community of Dubai and Sanjay Mehta, president of the Materials Recycling Association of India (MRAI, for their contributions to environmental protection.
Waste & Recycling Middle East and Africa magazine Chief Editor Swaliha Shanavas says the MEWAR program “has been instrumental in raising the bar in the Middle East waste and recycling sector.” Adds Shanavas, “As in previous editions, the awards acknowledged excellence in business practices, and recognized outstanding individuals and private and government organizations that have demonstrated leadership and innovation, and have been playing an important role in contributing to the vision of the governments in the region for a sustainable future.”
Award winners in 2022 include UAE-based Bee’ah as Waste Management Company of the Year; Saudi Arabia-based Middle East Paper Co. (MEPCO) as Paper Recycling Company of the Year; Saudi Arabia-based Al Qaryan Group as Metals Recycling Company of the Year (Manufacturer/Processor); and Salam Sharif of the UAE-based Sharif Metals Group as Personality of the Year.
