Intertech Pira’s 4th Annual Biopolymers Symposium, taking place Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, 2009, in Chicago, includes several sessions touching on recycling and composting options for products made from biopolymers.
The event begins Monday, Sept. 28 with a seminar on “Retail Scorecards, Green Marketing and Environmental Regulations that Impact Biopolymer Packaging.” Among the topics addressed at that seminar are recycling mandates for packaging materials and recycling goals being set by corporations.
Tuesday’s programming includes a track entitled “From Feedstock to End-of-Life and Waste,” with sessions covering compostable plastics and the sustainable use of plastics (including bioplastics).
A “Development of New Technologies” track on Wednesday, Sept. 30, includes a session on the use of renewable esters in biopolymers.
An “Ecolabeling Summit” on Thursday, Oct. 1, examines current and prospective processes to label plastic packaging as “green,” “carbon-free,” and biodegradable.
