The Fulton County (New York) Economic Development Corp. announced that Marck Recycling of New York has reached an agreement to purchase a 42,000-square foot building in an industrial park in Johnstown, NY.
Along with the purchase of the facility Marck Recycling also purchased 3.5 acres of land adjacent to the building for future growth possibilities.
Kent Longley, one of the owners of Marck Recycling, said the initial goal of the facility will be to service one of Wal-Mart’s Regional’s Return Center, also located in the Johnstown Industrial Park, as well as more than 100 Wal-Mart stores in the New York state area.
The company will collect sandwich bales from the various Wal-Mart locations, bring them to the recycling center, sort and separate by component: plastic parts, metals, aluminum, cardboard and paper and then bale, market and sell them.
Michelle Cory, another co-owner for Marck, said, "We are extremely excited to be able to provide this first of its kind, full-service recycling program in New York State for Wal-Mart and look forward to working with the Fulton County community." The proximity to the Return Center and the logistics of your Industrial Park will allow us to be very efficient in our operations," she added.
Along with the new facility in Johnstown, Marck also has operations in Missouri, Okalahoma, Tennessee, Kansas and Arkansas.
Longley says that demand for the material that constitutes the sandwich bale, primarily OCC and plastic wrapping, is in fairly strong demand, with most of the material going to domestic sources.
