The Blue Island, Ill., City Council approved a special-use permit for the Frederick Recycling Corp. to begin construction and operation of a recycling center on the northeast side of town.
The facility is in an area zoned for industrial use.
Construction will consist of a 4,800-square-foot office building and an 18,000-square-foot metal-clad building that will house the recycling operation.
The permit allows the company to recycle dry commercial, industrial and construction waste, which mainly consists of brick, concrete and wood, village officials said. The company will submit additional information to the city about its operation and materials that it will handle.
The company is operated by Frederick Brothers Landscape Construction & Management, which is based in Chicago's Beverly community, city officials said.
The company operates three landscaping facilities, two in Beverly and one in Blue Island.
