Recylex SA, based in Paris, has announced that its Eco-Recyclage, in which it holds a one-third stake, has started operation at its used battery processing site in Aïn Ouassara, Algeria.
The plant is Recylex’s first international development outside its countries of origin (France, Germany and Belgium). The factory serves as a processing center that is geared to handle used automobile batteries.
At full capacity, the facility will have an annual processing capacity of 20,000 metric tons of used batteries. The company presently processes around 130,000 metric tons at its facilities in Europe.
The goal of the new facility is to give the company the opportunity to expand its processing expertise in emerging markets, according to Recyclex.
Recylex specializes in recycling lead and plastic from automobile and industrial batteries; recycling zinc from steel mill dust; and producing zinc oxides and special metals for the electronics industry. It operates in France, Germany and Belgium.
