Recycler Gets Go-Ahead to Replace Building

Massachusetts firm hopes to have project complete within the next two months.

Acme Metals and Recycling, located in Springfield, Mass., has received unanimous approval by the Springfield City Council to erect a building at the company site. The present building was damaged in a fire early last year and is in need of being replaced.

George Sachs, owner of Acme, hopes to break ground on the new building within the next few weeks. Once the building is complete the company will be installing a new baler that will allow the company to increase its processing of scrap aluminum.

According to local press reports construction of the new building will cost close to $150,000.

The company handles both ferrous and nonferrous metal at the site.

Along with the building, Acme also is looking at acquiring property adjacent to their facility to allow for an extension of the building, as well as giving the facility more storage space for the material.

While approving the changes for Acme, the Springfield Council requires the city review the property after eight months.
