Tire manufacturer Toyo Tire & Rubber is now using Eco Circle tire cord made from recycled polyester and manufactured by Teijin Fibers Ltd., Tokyo. Tires using the recycled polyester cord are being sold in both Japan and Europe.
A Teijin Fibers news release says the company’s “chemically recycled polyester Eco Circle Fibers are now being used in the cords of Proxes Ne tires, which Toyo Tire Europe GmbH introduced to the European market beginning in April of 2009.”
Toyo Tire & Rubber launched Proxes Ne in Japan in December of 2008 as tires designed for what it calls “environmentally-oriented passenger cars.” The company has now expanded its market for the product into Europe.
Eco Circle Fibers are marketed under the brand name EcoPet Plus in Japan. The recycled fibers are created through what Teijin Fibers calls a closed-loop recycling system that employs “chemical recycling technology developed by Teijin Fibers.”
The recycled-content fibers also have been used to make uniforms, sportswear and other apparel such as bags and gloves. More information on Eco Circle Fibers can be found at www.teijin.co.jp/english.
