Recycled Board Production Continues Drop

The production of recycled paperboard stands at 1.344 million tons, a slight uptick from the previous month, although down from figures the same time last year.

Production for the first ten months of the year stands at 13.124 million tons, a decline of 1.6 percent from the same time last year.

While total recycled board production declined, total paperboard production declined a much sharper 4.8 percent between the two years.

Broken out by individual commodity grades, recycled linerboard production dropped by 2.7 percent for the first ten months of the year. At the same time total linerboard production declined by 4.7 percent.

Recycled corrugated medium production moved up 2.5 percent between last year and this year. For October, production of the grade stands at 351,000 tons, up slightly from the prior months.

While recycled medium production increased, total corrugated medium production dipped by 3.7 percent.

The final component of the recycled paperboard industry, recycled boxboard, posted the sharpest drop between last year and this year. For 2001, production is down 5.3 percent, compared to total boxboard production, which dipped a slighter 3.3 percent.
