Recycle Track Systems Inc. (RTS), a waste and recycling management company based in New York City, has announced a multiyear partnership with Audi Field, home to D.C. United, the most decorated franchise in U.S. soccer history, to implement initiatives to expand the arena’s environmental focus. The state-of-the-art facility earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and is scheduled to open in July.
RTS says this marks the first time it has provided practices and education during the final stages of construction, leading to the opening of a large-scale sports facility. RTS advises and manages waste for several stadiums including Nationals Park, Washington, as well as Citi Field and Barclays Center, both in New York City.
To increase recycling awareness, RTS says it plans to leverage its portfolio of services to advocate for waste reduction and provide measurable data for the stadium to achieve its environmental goals. This includes staff training provided by RTS’ LEED-accredited team to support proper education and communication on waste separation practices. RTS also plans to provide real-time tracking technology that ensures recyclables and compostable food waste are being properly distributed to the designated facility.
“We are thrilled to partner with D.C. United and Audi Field, who have put sustainability at the forefront of their stadium operations,” says Greg Lettieri, co-founder and CEO of RTS. “Their dedication to diverting gameday waste from landfills goes hand in hand with our advanced recycling mission.”
RTS also says it will support the new stadium through sponsorship activities, including in-stadium signage, branding on all waste receptacles and an educational pregame video to encourage fan participation in recycling during events.
“D.C. United [is] committed to being environmentally responsible along with preserving and protecting the area around Audi Field,” United President Tom Hunt says. “The District of Columbia are focused on environmental sustainability and as a team that represents the nation’s capital, we want to reflect that same commitment while also providing fans with a world class venue.”
RTS combines technology with high-touch service to make waste disposal easier, smarter and more responsible. From on-demand removal to fully integrated waste management solutions, RTS helps companies track and optimize their pickups.
