Recycle America began a partnership with Tompkins County (N.Y.) Solid Waste Division, by launching a drop off program for computer related electronic scrap. Recycle America, a subsidiary of Waste Management, operates the county’s recycling and solid waste center.
The project, begun July 2, is the first electronics recycling project for Recycle America in New York State.
Recycle America will work with Asset Recovery Group, its sister company, to handle and process the collected material.
According to Recycle America, the materials collected at the facility will be shipped to a cathode ray tube recycler in Pennsylvania and to ARG’s demanufacturing facility in North Carolina.
“We are proud of our recycling partnership with Tompkins County and how it continues to evolve to address new materials such as computers and monitors,” said Tom Powers, regional recycling manager for Recycle America.
