Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation Expands Collection

The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a nonprofit organization that recycles rechargeable batteries, is now accepting nickel zinc batteries as part of their Call2Recycle collection program. With the addition of the nickel zinc batteries, RBRC now accepts five types of rechargeable batteries including nickel cadmium, nickel metal-hydride, lithium-ion and small sealed lead batteries.

RBRC represents more than 350 manufacturers of rechargeable batteries and their licensees comprise more than 90 percent of the rechargeable battery industry. The RBRC features 50,000 collection sites in the United States and Canada.

RBRC's Call2Recycle is the most comprehensive rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling program available nationwide. The program provides the means to collect and recycle old cell phones and used rechargeable batteries found in cordless electronic products, such as laptop computers, cordless power tools, two-way radios, cordless phones, cell phones, digital cameras and camcorders.

"Expanding the scope of the program to include the Ni-Zn battery chemistry is a logical response to advancements in the portable power industry and the proliferation of new battery chemistries in the marketplace," says Greg Broe, interim chief operating officer for RBRC.
