ReCellular Inc. announced that ALACEL, the Latin American mobile industry association, has officially endorsed ReCellular as its preferred wireless equipment recycler.
The 10-year ALACEL-ReCellular agreement, signed late last month, states that ALACEL will aggressively encourage its member organizations, wireless service providers, retail providers of cellular devices, and community or volunteer groups to sponsor used cell phone collection and recycling programs, using ReCellular as their official and exclusive recycling partner.
ALACEL has also made ReCellular an honorary Active Member of the association, which represents private wireless companies throughout Latin America.
"With over one billion cell phone activations to date worldwide, responsible cell phone disposal has become a growing environmental challenge," said Joyce Alarcon, Executive Director of ALACEL. "ReCellular has established a worldwide reputation for excellence in this specialized and much-needed discipline. ReCellular, based in Dexter, Michigan, reconditions wireless phones for resale in areas of the world where new phones are cost-prohibitive.
Phones beyond repair are sent to component recycling companies that disassemble each handset and battery.
