West Virginia DEP Announces REAP Recycling Assistance Grant Winners

State awards more than $1.5 million to boost recycling performance in the state.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced the recipients of its 2011 Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP) Recycling Assistance Grants. Thirty-six recipients received grants totaling $1.55 million, according to Randy Huffman, DEP cabinet secretary.

The grants were awarded to state solid waste authorities, county commissions, municipalities, private industries and nonprofit organizations. Funding for the Recycling Assistance Program is generated through a fee of $1 per ton of solid waste disposed at landfills in the state.
2011 REAP grant recipients are:
  • AW Recycling has been awarded $30,000 to purchase a used recycling truck.
  • Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority has been awarded $98,000 to purchase a fork lift, road trailers, safety dock plates for electronics recycling and recycling center upgrades for its countywide program.
  • The village of Beech Bottom has received $9,800 to purchase a receptacle trailer for its recycling program.    
  • Adams Trucking and Supply has received $75,000 to purchase a glass recycling system for a new recycling operation.
  • Eaves Recycling has received $50,000 to assist with the purchase of a granulator for the recycling operation.
  • Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA has received $67,899 to purchase a roll-back truck and commercial recycling containers for its current collection program.
  • The town of Fayetteville has received $66,500 to purchase a new truck and down-stroke baler and to provide support for the city’s on-going program.
  • Clarksburg Scrap Metals has received $18,050 to purchase a shear and wire stripper and to provide support for the company’s recycling operation.
  • Jackson County Solid Waste Authority has received $135,000 to purchase a recycling trailer and conveyor and to assist with personnel and to provide support for the on-going countywide program.
  • The city of Charleston has received $102,770 to purchase a recycling vehicle and to provide support the city’s current program.
  • The Recycling Coalition of West Virginia has recieved $42,500 to help with the America Recycles Day eight-page insert for statewide advertising.
  • The Lincoln County Solid Waste Authority has received $25,500 to assist with personnel and provide support for the ongoing countywide program.
  • The city of Bluefield has received $11,900 to assist with personnel and to provide support for the citywide program.
  • Concord University Research and Development has received $37,480 to purchase a 22-foot recycling bin and a utility vehicle and to provide support for the campus-wide program.
  • The city of Princeton has received $10,000 to assist with contractors for recycling mobile homes, appliances and junk cars and to provide support for the ongoing citywide program.
  • PC Renewal has received $16,000 to purchase a hard drive shredder for its current recycling operation.
  • Morgan County Solid Waste Authority has received $15,800 to assist with personnel and to provide support for the ongoing countywide program.
  • New River Trading has received $10,000 to purchase a used skid loader for its recycling operation.   
  • Ohio County Solid Waste Authority has received $24,367 to purchase a roll-off container and to provide support for the countywide collection program.
  • Wheeling Area Training Center for the Handicapped has received $41,851 to purchase a baler and conveyor for its recycling operation.
  • The town of Terra Alta has received $62,628 to assist with personnel and to provide support for the current recycling program.
  • Davis and Elkins College has received $6,400 to purchase wooden recycling bins and provide support for the campus-wide program.
  • Randolph County Recycling Center has received $75,000 to purchase a baler and belt conveyor and to provide support for its recycling operation.
  • Ritchie County Commission has received $40,000 to assist with the installation of a truss roof for the Ritchie County Recycling Center.
  • The Ritchie County Solid Waste Authority has received $61,555 to purchase a used box truck, baler and overhead bay door and to provide support for the countywide program.
  • The Taylor County Solid Waste Authority has received $13,950 to assist with personnel and the Great Paper Chase administration and to provide support for the ongoing countywide program.
  • Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center has received $59,263.64 to purchase recycling containers and compost tumblers and assist with establishing a recycling program.
  • United Disposal Service has received $37,407.50 to help in the purchase of recycling containers for the current operation.
  • The Wayne County Solid Waste Authority has received $54,685 to purchase a truck and recycling trailers and to provide support for the ongoing countywide program.
  • The Webster County Solid Waste Authority has received $10,000 to assist with demolition contractors for mobile home recycling within the county.
  • Zanesville Welfare Organization and Goodwill Industries have received $70,000 to purchase a horizontal baler for the current recycling operation.
  • The Wirt County Solid Waste Authority has received $20,500 to purchase a baler and assist with the countywide program.
  • Harold’s Refuse Removal has received $33,055 to purchase a lift trailer, dumping bin and roll-off boxes and to provide support for the current recycling operation.
  • The city of Parkersburg has received $62,407 to purchase a fork lift and to assist with personnel and to provide support for the citywide recycling program.
  • West Virginia University at Parkersburg has received $17,530.27 to purchase a recycling trailer and recycling containers and provide support for the campus wide program.
  • The Wyoming County Commission has received $37,000 to purchase a recycling truck for the ongoing countywide program.
