RCO Gives Awards

Recycling Council of Ontario announces its annual awards.

The Recycling Council of Ontario presented its annual Ontario Waste Minimization Awards in 18 categories to recognize excellence in the field of waste diversion and minimization.

Among the 2001 award winners were:

Chairman's Award: City of Thunder Bay

Municipal Awards: Bluewater Area Municipalities, County of Northumberland, Township of Zorra, Town of Hanover, Municipality of Brockton, Town of New Tecumseth, Town of Newmarket, Town of Markham, City of Windsor, City of Orillia, The Corporation of the Town of Whitby, City of Brantford, The Region of Durham, City of London, City of Ottawa, City of Toronto

Promotion Award: Tetra Pak Canada Inc.

Best Environmental News Story Award: Ajax-Pickering News Advertiser

Institution Award: Cambridge Memorial Hospital

Business Awards: Ford’s St. Thomas Assembly Plant, Ontario Power Generation

Professional Adult Award: Leah Hagreen

Not-for-Profit Award: Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation of Canada

Product Stewardship Award: IBM Canada, 14th Avenue

The Ontario Waste Minimization Awards provide a forum to recognize and honor those who demonstrate strong environmental and social consciousness towards environmental protection. Ontario citizens, municipalities, businesses and organizations are encouraged to recognize their peers and colleagues for their vital contribution to waste minimization and environmental sustainability.
