The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp. announced that more than 4 million pounds of rechargeable batteries were collected in the U.S. and Canada last year, an increase of 22 percent from the previous year.
"Since 1995, RBRC has recycled a total of over 21.9 million pounds of rechargeable batteries, said Ralph Millard, RRBC executive vice president. " We would like to thank all of the 30,000-plus retailers, businesses and communities that serve as collection points for used rechargeable batteries. It is through their commitment that our program has continued to grow."
"We are confident that our program will continue to grow as more and more consumers realize the need to recycle their used rechargeable batteries," said Millard. "We are excited about the prospect of expanding our recycling program to include cell phones in the coming year. "
