Raytheon Co., headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, has been designated an e-Stewards Enterprise in recognition of its dedicated use of e-Stewards certified recyclers.
E-Stewards was developed and is managed by the Basel Action Network (BAN), Seattle. E-Stewards recyclers undergo third-party audits annually to ensure they do not export hazardous byproducts to developing nations or dump in municipal landfills. E-Stewards recyclers also ensure that confidential data are secure and that operations protect workers and the environment.
"Raytheon embraces its special responsibility as a global manufacturer to minimize waste and reduce its negative impact on the planet," says Jon Aliber, vice president of the company’s global business services information technology. "This designation recognizes the strong effort Raytheon has made to manage waste responsibly, in keeping with its mission to help make the world a safer place."
Jim Puckett, executive director of BAN, says, "As a technology leader with global impact, Raytheon strongly supports e-Stewards to mitigate the environmental, social and security risks of improper e-waste management; they know this industry and their approval speaks volumes."
By becoming an e-Stewards Enterprise, Raytheon helps ensure developing nations and local communities are protected from the negative impacts of e-scrap, while they support green jobs that reclaim valuable materials, BAN says.
