Event to Focus on Rare Earth Metals

A three-day training seminar being offered in mid-December in Toronto will focus on rare earth metals, with one of the sessions covering the development of recycling markets for the metals.

Singapore-based conference organizer Terrapinn says “Rare Earth Metals: Comprehensive Training Course for Those Who Are New to the Industry” has been designed to allow attendees to “learn how the rare earth metals industry really works.” It is billed by Terrapinn as a three-day “MBA-level” course.

The event will take place Dec. 12-14 in Toronto. The program has been designed and will be presented by John Sykes of Greenfields Research, London.

Sykes “has carried out various consultancy projects in the rare earths sector, conducting market entry studies, sector overviews, shareholder briefing presentations and contributing to IPO documentation,” according to Terrapinn. Sykes “has worked all over the world [and] holds [a master’s degree] Geology from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London,” adds the conference organizer.

A session on Dec. 13 is titled “The potential for rare earths recycling and developing scrap supply.” According to Terrapinn, this portion of the program will cover potential recycling and scrap opportunities, including calculating the value of a rare earth oxide “basket” for different projects and calculating the cost of producing $1,000 worth of rare earth oxides.
