The Dubuque, Iowa printing plant of Quebecor World Inc., Montreal, is reportedly slated for a $24 million expansion project.
According to a report from Industrial Information Resources, Houston, the Canadian company will be relocating work from plants outside of Iowa to the Dubuque facility.
The Dubuque plant will subsequently expand from two printing presses to five, along with additional binding and other operations.
The deal had been expedited back in April by the commitment of some $1 million in investment tax credits arranged between Quebecor and the Iowa Department of Economic Development, according to the Telegraph Herald of Dubuque.
Quebecor will expand its operations to take up the remainder of a building in which it currently leases part of the space. Plans are for the expansion project to begin in the fall of 2002, with completion of the project not expected until early 2005.
The company has also announced plans to open a new retail offset printing plant in Riverside, Calif. That plant, scheduled to start production by the fourth quarter of this year, will concentrate on making inserts and mailers for retailers. The 196,000 sq. ft. plant will eventually have seven offset presses and an accompanying logistics center.
Quebecor is among the largest commercial printing companies in the world, employing about 40,000 people worldwide in more then 160 facilities in 17 countries in North America, South America and Europe. The company is a leader in several product categories, including magazines, inserts and circulars, books, catalogs and directories.Get curated news on YOUR industry.
