PureCycle Technologies, Orlando, Florida, and iSustain Recycling, a Soddy Daisy, Tennessee-based recycling solutions provider, have announced an agreement to source and divert up to 10 million pounds of polypropylene (PP) plastic scrap from landfills and waterways.

According to a news release from PureCycle, iSustain is a sustainability strategist that provides comprehensive recycling solutions. PureCycle and iSustain will work together to target postuse PP and packaging materials that are not typically recycled.

“This agreement is evidence of a great partnership that continues to flourish,” says PureCycle CEO Dustin Olson. “In 2022, we teamed up with iSustain to bring sustainable recycling practices to the Plastics Recycling Conference. This deal, however, will have a lasting impact far beyond a single-week event. With iSustain’s expansive network, we can use our patented recycling technology to grow beyond curbside materials and also achieve circularity with other polypropylene [scrap] materials.”

ISustain will supply material that will come from industry and other streams that are not supported by traditional curbside infrastructure. PureCycle says these waste streams include super sacks, plastic trays, pallets and more.

The feedstock will be processed by PureCycle into its PureFive resin. PureCycle says its resin is made using a patented process designed to transform polypropylene plastic scrap into a continuously renewable resource. PureCycle’s purification technology removes odor, color and other impurities from polypropylene scrap.
