PulPac, a Gothenburg, Sweden-based manufacturer of equipment for molded pulp packaging, has announced it has joined 4evergreen, a cross-industry alliance to optimize fiber-based packaging circularity and climate performance. The company says the organization unites the industry’s entire value chain, promoting cooperation and innovation.
“The common goal of the 4evergreen alliance is to perfect the circularity whilst raising awareness of the advantages of fiber-based packaging such as low environmental impact,” says Susanne Haase, program director of 4evergreen alliance. “By doing this work, we are aiming to raise the overall recycling rate of fiber-based packaging to 90 percent by 2030. Innovation stands at the heart of our alliance and PulPac, with its innovative fiber-forming technology, is a most welcome member.”
According to a news release from Pulpac, 4evergreen is an alliance of industry leaders from pulp, paper and board manufacturers and recyclers, such as International Paper, MM Group, Stora Enso, UPM and Smurfit Kappa. The alliance is hosted by CEPI (the Confederation of European Paper Industries), headquartered in Brussels, and also includes global brands like Pepsico, Nestlé, Danone, IKEA and Procter & Gamble. Packaging producers and converters, such as Tetra Pak, Seda and AR Packaging, are involved as well.
“What we bring to this alliance of experts and world-leaders is a novel production technology that can accelerate the transition to fiber-based packaging even further, and open new possibilities of cost-competitive sustainable fiber solutions,” says Linus Larsson, CEO of PulPac. “We can convert fiber into packaging up to 10 times faster than conventional fiber forming methods while decreasing CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent, all while conserving a lot of valuable water. We have a strong belief that partnerships across industries and value chains are integral to unlock the very rapid change needed today as the world seeks a shift to a sustainable circular economy.”
