PSC Metals, Inc., announced plans to upgrade the technology of its scrap-shredding operations in Nashville, Tenn., and Columbus, Ohio, as part of its strategic plan to better serve its customers and vendors.
By this summer, the company’s Nashville location will have operational a Gamma-Tech Crossbelt Metal Analyzer, according to Greg Gillespie, General Manager of PSC Metals’ 50-acre site. The equipment will allow the company to monitor and adjust the mix of materials being shredded, enhancing the quality of the final scrap.
This technology will enable the company to provide steel mills with low-copper material.
The company also will be adding a Wendt all-metal separator at its Columbus plant. The installation should take place this month. The separator will allow PSC to sort and recover non-ferrous scrap, a material that could not be retrieved from its eddy current separation system, said Michael Valentine, PSC’s Columbus GM.
