PSC Metals Expanding Non-Ferrous Operations in Ohio

Company looks to enhance several of its yards in the state with new technology to allow them to handle non-ferrous metals.

PSC Metals, Inc. has announced plans to expand its non-ferrous operations in Northeast Ohio. PSC Metals’ Canton location was selected as the first non-ferrous operation because of its long-term commercial relationships, its yard-buying experience, its central location, and its scrap-processing assets, according to Mike Chime, Manager, PSC Metals’ Non-Ferrous Development, Northeast Operations.

It is being developed, Chime said, as a "one-stop, full-service yard" servicing all customers and consumers of non-ferrous materials. The Canton location currently shreds high-quality grades of ferrous and non-ferrous automobile and appliance scrap for steel mills and foundries.

As part of the development, PSC Metals has designated a section of its 100-acre yard for its upgraded non-ferrous operations. An existing building is to be used to collect, process, and store all non-ferrous material. Next year, plans call for construction of a new structure that will store, process and prepare larger volumes of non-ferrous materials.

Additionally, new technologies are planned to enhance customer service, including the use of computerized "touch screen" technology that will provide real time and historical data. These will speed customer transactions and reduce waiting time for settlement. "At PSC, the statement ‘one stop, full service and complete customer satisfaction,’ is more than just words," Chime said. "We believe we have all the critical assets and employees in place - equipment, technology, transportation and management.

Full-service non-ferrous operations are expected to begin in Canton by the middle of this month, Chime said. Similar developments will be carried out at other Northeast yards next year, including PSC Metals’ Cleveland and Columbus locations.

PSC Metals has a large non-ferrous presence throughout the Southeast as well as in Beaver Falls, Pa.
