Proposed Rock Crushing Operation Runs into Opposition

Wright Paving Contractors, a Tennessee-based asphalt company, is set to present its case to site a rock crushing/asphalt plant in an unincorporated location in middle Tennessee. The hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9^th. While the company has been in operation for around 30 years, a number of residents in an unincorporated city in Coffee County, Tenn., have so far opposed the plans by the company.

The company already has delivered its request to the Planning Commission to change the site eyed from agricultural/residential to industry.

Norma Wright, with Wright Paving, says opponents to the project are concerned that the new facility could take away jobs from an existing quarry in the area. That quarry, Rogers Group, has been in business for around 50 years.

Other concerns voiced include the increase in truck traffic on the highway leading to the proposed site, as well as the location, within three miles of an elementary school.

According to local press reports Wright has submitted a detailed proposal that included results from ecological tests and site planning.

If the project is approved by the Coffee County Planning Commission the next step in the process is to have the full Commission approve the project.
