Proposed New York C&D Facility Draws Opposition

Some town officials critical of C&D debris recycling facility, landfill.

A plan to build a construction and demolition debris recycling facility and landfill in Hoosick, N.Y., has begun to draw criticism, according to a report in the Times Union (Albany, N.Y.).

A proposal was announced in July to build a C&D recycling facility and landfill on a 700-acre site in the town called Wastetricity. The facility would separate C&D debris for reuse and bury the rest in an onsite landfill.

However, some town officials have expressed opposition to the project, according to the report. Some are particularly wary of the proposed site’s proximity to the Bennington Battlefield Historic Site—a Revolutionary War site.

The next town board meeting addressing the issue will be Sept. 11.
