Miller Leasing, a company that is looking to build a concrete recycling facility in Moline, Ill., adjacent to a local airport, has run into significant opposition. The company had requested a change in the zoning for the land, as well as a conditional use permit for the plant to allow the company to operate the concrete recycling facility.
The land eyed for the project is around 26 acres. Of that amount, the company was looking at around 8 acres for the C&D recycling project.
However, at a public hearing on March 23rd, the full planning commission voted to deny the project, overruling staff members who had earlier recommended approval of the project.
According to a Jeff Anderson, city planner for the city of Moline, says the next step for the company is to submit its request directly to the Moline City Council.
Anderson said that the company indicated that if it operated at the site it would be processing around 100,000 tons of concrete annually.
