Property Group Partners with E-Scrap Firm

Indiana real estate firm partners with non-profit group to boost e-scrap recycling levels.

Lauth Property Group has signed a three year agreement with Workforce, Inc. to recycle the company's electronic waste. The deal is part of the RecycleForce program aimed at keeping electronic waste out of Indiana's landfills and providing jobs and social services to disadvantaged workers. Workforce says it has already picked up several thousand pounds of electronic waste from the Lauth corporate headquarters in Indianapolis.

RecycleForce, a program of not-for-profit Workforce, Inc., announced that it has entered into a three-year agreement with Lauth Property Group to recycle all of the company’s electronic waste.

Workforce Inc. and the city of Indianapolis were selected last year to participate in a transitional jobs initiative by a coalition of organizations including the National League of Cities.

Out of this came RecyleForce, which is a social enterprise that aims to keep as much electronic waste as possible out of Indiana’s landfills while providing jobs and social services to disadvantaged workers.

Thomas Gray, RecycleForce president, said, "We have done an initial pick-up of several thousand pounds from the Lauth corporate headquarters. As an extra security measure for Lauth, when RecycleForce de-manufactures the computer systems, we also insure the security of the hard drives by both de-magnetizing and physically destroying them. Every company has the proverbial back room or closet full of obsolete computer or office equipment. It is a growing problem and one we hope to successfully address.Jeff Ton, Lauth, VP Enterprise Processes Information and Technology, said the company is also looking to expand their recycling program. "At some point in the future, we may investigate offering this service to the tenants in our office properties."
