The Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP) association is hosting a two-day event called “Smarter to Separate” focused on material recovery facility (MRF) operations The training event is June 3-4, 2015, at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
The goal of the event, PROP says, is for attendees to “experience the recycling process and understand the market.”
PROP adds, “The two-day training will entail detailed instruction by some of Pennsylvania’s most outstanding recycling program directors.” Attendees will “tour a MRF through its daily operation and participate on the lines with sorting and processing,” allowing them to “learn and understand the value of the process for successful marketing.”
Instructors at the MRF “will cover topics vital to building, implementing and sustaining a recycling facility, reducing contamination levels and operating a successful MRF,” PROP says.
Topics covered include:
- collection systems;
- education programs;
- accident prevention;
- source-separated processing;
- commingled processing;
- paper and cardboard processing;
- the economics of markets;
- building market relationships;
- enhancing marketability; and
- shipment of materials.
