P&G’s Fabric Care group plans to make 230 million bottles a year from recycled plastic

Initiative reflects a 3,800-ton increase in the use of postconsumer plastics, P&G says.

Multinational consumer products company Procter & Gamble has announced that its Fabric Care organization will manufacture some 230 million product bottles out of up to 50 percent postconsumer recycled material (PCR).

The sustainability action includes the Ariel, Dash, Lenor and Downy Unstopables brands.

The company says this initiative reflects an increase of 3,800 tons in the use of PCR and that the bottles will be on store shelves by the first half of 2016.

In addition, the company says, the action represents another step in moving closer to its vision to make 100 percent of its products and packaging from renewable and recycled materials.

Gianni Ciserani, group president of global fabric and home care says, “When it comes to sustainability, we believe that actions speak louder than words. The increase in recycled materials in the packaging of our Fabric Care brands is a huge step in the right direction. We want to make it easier for consumers to choose sustainable brands whilst continuing to deliver superior product performance.”
