Private Company Proposes C&D Transfer Station

Toscana Corp. proposes alternative C&D disposal option in Nantucket, Mass.

A private excavating company has proposed building a transfer station in Nantucket, Mass., to handle the island’s construction and demolition debris, according to a report in the Inquirer and Mirror (Nantucket, Mass.).

The proposal was submitted by Toscana Corp. to the Board of Health on Feb. 8, even though the town is in the midst of a 25-year C&D disposal contract with Rhode Island-based Waste Options, according to the report.

Toscana’s plan includes an enclosed facility to collect and sort C&D debris and equipment to transport it to an off-island facility.

Representatives from the company say the facility would be large enough to accommodate Nantucket’s expected volume of C&D material—expected to reach around 15,000 tons per year.
