Pride Industries has been named a recipient of the 2009 Waste Reduction Awards Program, sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
PRIDE is among 250 California businesses and nonprofit organizations being recognized with the WRAP award. Collectively, the organizations have diverted more than 2 million tons of materials from local landfills through aggressive resource management and recycling programs, and have saved millions of dollars in operating costs.
PRIDE was selected based on a set of criteria that included waste prevention, materials reuse, recycling, recycled-product purchases, and employee education. Since implementing its recycling program in October 2008, PRIDE Industries has diverted 84 percent of its solid waste from landfills.
PRIDE Industries is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating jobs for people with disabilities and employs more than 4,300 individuals across ten states and in the nation's capitol, including more than 2,700 people with disabilities.
