Pregis, a packaging producer headquartered in Chicago, recently released its 2024 sustainability report, which spotlights the company’s advances in product sustainability, emissions reduction and stakeholder impact.
The company, which specializes in protective packaging, mailing and bagging and flexible packaging products, says its report affirms progress toward its 2030 goals. In 2024, Pregis claims it make “notable progress” across multiple areas of its sustainability strategy, including:
- the diversion of 92 percent of its operational scrap from landfills or incineration;
- 52 percent of its total revenue coming from sustainable products, which the company defines as paper-based, biobased or containing 30 percent or more recycled content;
- matching the electricity consumption at six production facilities with renewable energy;
- saving 1.38 million trees through sustainable material sourcing; and
- 130,397 lives impacted through clean water access, disaster relief and community programs.
“In 2024, we made progress that matters,” Pregis Chairman and CEO Kevin Bauduin says. “The engine behind this momentum is our people. Their creativity, passion and persistence power every milestone. In 2024 alone, our teams helped achieve measurable reductions in carbon emissions, diverted more waste from landfills and scaled production of circular materials—all while continuing to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving market. As we look toward the future, our focus remains clear: to create sustainable value for our customers, employees, communities and investors.”
In the report, Pregis claims it continued to scale its sustainable packaging portfolio with the launch of new products that reduce reliance on virgin plastics and enhance recyclability. These include the introduction of:
- AirSpeed Renew 80 percent postconsumer recycled (PCR) options available in double-cushion and quilt inflatable cushions;
- Performance Flexibles, which the company says adds a 50 percent PCR collation shrink film to its flexible packaging lineup; and
- the EverTec curbside recyclable mailing portfolio, which has expanded to include variable length mailing Automated Ready Rolls and EverTec Automated Mailer compatible with the Pregis Sharp MaxPro Series.
Additionally, the company reports it increased its global landfill diversion rate to 92 percent and reached 99 percent scrap diversion at its Anderson, South Carolina, facility. Pregis says it reduced its operational emissions intensity by 25 percent compared to 2019 and received third-party verification across all emissions scopes.
The report also highlights Pregis’ commitment to communities and employee education. Last year, for example, the company provided more than 72,000 hours of training, hosted more than 1,200 visitors at its global Pregis IQ locations for hands-on learning and collaboration and completed 165 IQ projects focused on damage reduction, packaging efficiency and circular design.
