The paper company Pratt Industries, headquartered in Conyers, Georgia, has officially opened its newest recycling facility in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Myles Cohen, president of Pratt Recycling, says the new plant—the company’s third recycling facility in South Carolina and the 15th recycling center the company operates in the United States—will service the recycling needs of businesses, cities and counties within a 100-mile radius and bring both economic and environmental benefits to the area.
“This portion of the state of South Carolina has historically been underserved by not having a material recovery facility located in Rock Hill,” says Cohen. “Now Rock Hill businesses and residents, as well as those in surrounding municipalities, can have access to a recycling facility close to their own community.
The 72,000-square-foot building will accept both residential and commercial recyclables including paper, plastics and metals. The paper collected and processed at the MRF will be shipped to Pratt’s recycled board mill in Conyers.
The new facility is expected to handle around 100 tons of recovered fiber and a total of 150 tons of recyclables per day.
