Pratt Industries Recognizes Exel for Facility Recycling Program

Supply chain management company recognized for recycling program.

Westerville, Ohio-based Exel, a North American leader in supply chain management and a Deutsche Post World Net company, has been awarded a Certificate of Environmental Stewardship by Pratt Industries, one of the largest paper and packaging companies in the United States. The certificate recognizes a component of the recycling program at one of Exel’s facilities near Belleville, Mich.

During the 2007 recycling program, the Exel facility recycled 2,100 tons of corrugated cardboard, 127 tons of plastic and 19,200 wood pallets.

Exel’s Belleville facility manages international shipments including importing, exporting and repacking for customers in the automotive industry. The warehouse is 240,000 square feet and has employed its comprehensive recycling program for the last five years.

The Exel facility uses 100 percent recycled packaging provided by Pratt Industries’ NaturalBox sustainable packaging offering. The company estimates that in 2007 Exel saved 7,222 trees, 2.9 million gallons of water, 1,062 cubic yards of landfill waste and 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

“As a leader in the logistics industry, Exel recognizes that our operations affect the environment. We are committed to minimizing this impact through recycling efforts and other energy-saving programs throughout our organization,” Mike Brandenstein, vice president of operations for Exel’s automotive business unit says. “We are honored to receive this recognition from Pratt Industries and look forward to continuing our effort to recycle, improve efficiency and reduce consumption.”
