Posco has broken ground on its second Posco-CTPC plant within the Tianjin Economic-Technologic Development Area (TEDA) in China. When operational, the automobile sheet facility will have an annual capacity of 120,000 tons.
“This new facility, once in operation, will enable us to supply high-quality automobile sheets and provide logistic services” says Oh In-hwan, Posco’s Senior VP. “I sincerely hope the plant will develop into contributing to the local economy with encouragement and interest from the community here.”
Currently, Chinese and other automakers and car parts companies operate in the Tianjin and the Huabei regions, making TEDA emerge as a pivotal hub for the auto industry.
In 1995, POSCO completed its first POSCO-CTPC plant in Tianjin, which also has an annual capacity of 120,000 tons. It is supplying steel products to electronics companies such as LG and Daewoo.
Products from the second plant will be provided for carmakers including Toyota, Tianjin Faw Xiali Automobile and Great Wall Motors.
