The Kingston, Ontario City Council has approved a test project by Poly-Pacific International Inc. to perform an assessment on whether there is an opportunity to extract nylon material from the Kingston West landfill site.
Poly-Pacific is looking to extract for recycling various types of nylons and polymers that the company feels were shipped the landfill by a manufacturer in the area.
According to one news report there is an estimated 180,000 metric tons of industrial waste landfilled.
Poly-Pacific has been granted the opportunity to assess the feasibility of extracting the material. If it is determined that there is an adequate amount of plastics that could be recycled the company may go back to the council to see if they could extract the material.
The project is expected to take six months.
