Plastrec, a Joliette, Quebec-based recycler of PET plastic, has announced that it will soon have the largest recycled PET food-grade resin production capacity in Canada.
Plastrec says it will be the first company to combine two high-end decontamination technologies by using a German extrusion technology developed by Gneuss, together with a Swiss decontamination technology by Buhler. According to the company, the technology has already received a letter of non-objection from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the equivalent certification by Health Canada.
“Plastrec will produce 40 million pounds annually of recycled PET resin,” says Louis Robitaille, vice president of the company. “This resin will be used for making new bottles, various packaging as well as polyester fiber.”
Plastrec began operations in 1992 and uses only curbside collected bottles in its process.
