Denton Plastics, a plastics recycling company based in Portland, Ore., is close to completing the purchase land in neighboring Gresham, Ore., which should allow the company to double its production capability.
Dennis Denton, majority owner of the company, says the land purchase is expected by the end of the year. The company hopes to begin operation at the new location by next November.
The goal of the new location will be to boost the company’s production from between 3.5-4 million pounds a day to as much as 7 million pounds a day.
The company takes in scrap plastics from industrial, commercial and post-consumer sources and, shreds, grinds and extrudes the material to make a resin compound.
End markets for the material, Denton notes, will be many non-food or medical applications, including pipes, toys, and flower pots. The company will be selling their product to a number of sources, including more than a dozen in the Pacific Rim.
Along with installing new equipment to allow the company to handle more material, the new location is on a rail siding, giving the company access to more material. The facility also will have 18 silos to store the plastics.
