Plastics Company Wins Recycling Award

Spartech Corp., a plastics company based in St. Louis, has received an international environmental award in part for recycling programs implemented at its plant in Portage, Mo.

Spartech was awarded the Innovative Environmental Program Award from the International Association of Plastics Distributors. The award recognizes companies that create new and different ways to recycle, reducing plastic waste in the environment.

The company introduced its Global Environmental Pledge company-wide in 1994.

The company implemented several new recycling programs at the Spartech Plastics-Portage and Cape Girardeau, Mo., plants this year to recover the value of container and packaging materials that would otherwise be landfilled. The company recycles more than 200 million pounds per year through its three plastics processing segments.

Spartech is a $925 million producer of engineered thermoplastic materials, polymeric compounds, and molded and products that employs 3,300 workers at 43 facilities located throughout North America and Europe.
