Growing opposition to the use of plastic in some applications, and how recyclers can respond, will be discussed at a session at the 2018 Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference Europe, which is Nov. 6-7 in Prague.
A session at the event titled “Repackaging for a New Era” will offer presentations on how consumer products companies and recycling firms are responding to vocal criticism of plastic packaging that goes unrecycled. The session takes place the morning of Wednesday, November 7, the conference’s second day.
Among the presenters and panelists at the packaging-focused session are Dominic Cakebread, a packaging consultant with United Kingdom-based GlobalData Plc; Stuart Hayward-Higham, who works in technical development in the U.K. for France-based Suez; and Stephan Kruger of Finland-based plastic scrap conversion firm Neste Corp. It will be moderated by Mike Baxter of U.K.-based plastics recycling firm RPC bpi Group.
The conference’s following session, titled “Making Sustainability Great Again,” also looks at the growing role of sustainability in packaging design and recycling. Speakers include Michael Schneider of Germany-based recycling firm Remondis; Peter Börkey, who completed an in-depth study on plastic recycling for the France-based Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); Jean-Pierre Deffis of the Brussels-based European Federation of Bottled Water; and Alessandro Pasquale of the Czech Republic-based Karlovarske Mineralni Vody.
The back-to-back sessions are poised to give recyclers of plastic and paper an in-depth look at recycling’s role in meeting the litter prevention and sustainability goals of governments, consumer products companies and retailers throughout Europe and around the world.
