The City of Philadelphia’s Streets Department unveiled three recycling trucks that prominently display ‘The Future of Recycling’. Philadelphia residents can look forward to seeing the new trucks during routine recycling pick-ups throughout the city.
The design of the campaign is to raise awareness of the city's single stream reycling program.
Philadelphia Streets Department’s Recycling Office launched ‘The Future of Recycling’ in March to encourage increased participation in its residential curbside recycling program. The city expanded its single stream program this past March, adding around 93,000 households to the 123,000 households presently taking part in the city's recycling program.
Inspired by the real comments of Philadelphia’s teenagers, the public service campaign features three area teens stepping up to take responsibility for their own recycling habits while encouraging the adults in their lives to follow their lead.
The three teens appearing on the vehicles were nominated by teachers, and are a step the city is taking to encourage younger people to become more involved in improving recycling levels in the city.
In the future the city also is considering highlighting a family that has fully embraced the recycling ethos in the city.
