The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded the city of Philadelphia a grant of $2 million to support an advertising and educational outreach program to increase participation in the city’s curbside recycling program.
Funding for the city's expanded recycling effort comes from Section 902 of the state's Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act, which will reimburse the city for its outreach efforts and for collection equipment. The $2 million grant provides $1.13 million for public education and $870,000 for the purchase of 10 recycling collection vehicles for use throughout the city. Last year, the city received more than $1.7 million in recycling grant assistance.Latest from Recycling Today
