Philadelphia Hires New Recycling Coordinator

Philadelphia Streets Commissioner Clarena I.W. Tolson has announced that Joan Hicken has been hired as the city’s new recycling coordinator.

As recycling coordinator, Hicken will be responsible for continued realization of the Street Department’s goal to increase recycling participation and diversion rates.

According to Tolson, Hicken most recently served as recycling coordinator for the city of Glendale, Ariz., where she designed and implemented the community’s single-stream recycling program.

“We are impressed by Joan’s accomplishments in the areas of waste management and recycling,” Deputy Commissioner Carton Williams says. “We especially value her understanding of recycling as an integral part of solid waste management and incorporating that vision into effective programs and marketing campaigns.
