PG&E Receives the CoRY Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association - Recycling Program Ranks First Among Large Building Owners in San Francisco
Pacific Gas and Electric Company received an award for the company's recycling efforts at its headquarters office complex in downtown San Francisco. The utility has been named Commercial Recycler of the Year (CORY) for large buildings by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of San Francisco, in cooperation with the city of San Francisco's Department of the Environment.
"Pacific Gas and Electric Company's office buildings in San Francisco are an example for all San Francisco office buildings to do what they can for the environment through effective and efficient recycling programs," said Ken Cleaveland, director of government and public affairs for BOMA. "Not only is Pacific Gas and Electric Company helping the environment, but they are also helping their bottom line by achieving significant monetary savings through recycling."
The award recognizes the utility's commitment to recycling at its two office buildings. From June 2001 through May 2002, these two buildings combined to recycle the following:
-- High-Grade Paper 331,295 lbs
-- Mixed Paper 249,810 lbs
-- Cardboard 109,120 lbs
-- Bottles and Cans 16,675 lbs
Overall, the two buildings recycled 70 percent of their total waste stream.
