With the addition of the two retailers, PepsiCo says more than 120 recycling bins will be spotted at 30 participating retail locations in the city.
PepsiCo’s recycling program was introduced in April 2010. The compay says the program's goal is to boost the used beverage can (UBC) recycling rate to 50 percent by 2018. PepsiCo adds that since the program was launced, UBC recycling rates have increased from 34 percent to 42 percent.
Tim Carey, PepsiCo director of sustainability, says, “Increasing beverage recycling, particularly when people are away from their homes, comes down to simplicity and accessibility. We designed a bin that resembles a plastic bottle to stand out from a trash can, and always look to place it at convenient locations that people can easily identify.”
