The Vedette, Peotone, Illinois, reports that the Peotone Board of Trustees has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Will County to host an electronics recycling center beginning July 2016.
The collection site will be near the police station at 208 E. Main St., which currently accepts electronics from Will County residents. Days and hours of operation have not yet been decided.
Although most electronics have been banned from landfill in Illinois since 2012, the recycling center will not accept smoke detectors, dehumidifiers or large appliances, the paper says.
Village President Steve Cross told the newspaper he believes the deal is “a pretty good thing,” as it will allow residents a more convenient place to dispose of their electronics. He added that he anticipates a large turnout once the site is operational.
“We hope so, because that will keep them out of the ditches and landfills,” he says in the article.
The agreement will be finalized at the next county board meeting June 16, 2016.
