The EMI plant, a part of the Gunite Corp., closed its foundry operations in Erie, Pa., this past week.
The company attributed the decision to a sharp and sustained decline in demand for the heavy duty trucks for which Erie Foundry manufactured wheel-end components.
While the foundry closed, executives at the parent company are keeping the possibility of selling the operations to a buyer who may keep the plant open.
