Officials from the state of Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation awarded a $91,000 grant to East Penn Sanitation, Lower Nazareth, Pa. Work involves rail maintenance; construction of tracks and the installation of a scale to serve East Penn's refuse transfer facility at Brodhead.
Grant money in the amount of $412,065 was given to Azcon Corp. at one of its scrap yards. The money is to go toward track rehabilitation.
A total of $7 million in grant money was awarded late this past summer. A total of 42 grants were given. The goal of the grant money is to help preserve rail freight service and stimulate economic development.
The next found of funding from the DOT will be made available early next year.
