Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell released nearly $189,000 to reimburse Berks, Elk and Schuylkill counties for 80 percent of the costs of revising municipal waste management plans.
Berks County will receive a $100,000 waste management planning grant; Elk County will receive $68,000; and Schuylkill County will receive $20,770.
The Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act requires each county in Pennsylvania to submit to the Department of Environmental Protection an officially adopted municipal waste management plan for waste generated within its boundaries.
The County Municipal Waste Management Planning Grant Program reimburses counties for up to 80 percent of the costs of revising the plans. Applications for the grants may be submitted at any time.
