France-based recycling company Paprec has announced the acquisition of family owned Deroo Recuperation Recylage, a recycling and transportation firm based in the Pas-de-Calais region of France. Deroo was founded in the 1950s and has annual revenue of more than €48 million ($60 million).
The acquisition of Deroo gives Paprec a greater presence in northern France. A key Deroo asset is its Wizernes plant, which processes around 160,000 metric tons of recovered fiber per year.
Along with recycling plants, Deroo also has a transportation division that will give Paprec an additional 230 drivers.
“In 25 years, Paprec has become the leading independent player in all waste management; the group is fully committed to the ecological transition by ensuring that its 45,000 industrial customers and 1,200 communities maximize the value of the waste entrusted to them by focusing on the recycling solution," says Jean-Luc Petithuguenin, president and founder of Paprec Group.
Regarding selling to Paprec, Marc Deroo, president of Deroo, comments, “I wanted to secure a future for our employees, it was important for me to find a good partner.”
Paprec has been on an acquisition spree over the past several years. Earlier in 2018 Paprec acquired the environmental subsidiaries of the French construction company Lhotellier. The three companies it acquired from Lhotellier are: Ikos Environnement; CAPIK, an anaerobic digestion firm; and VI Environnement, a collection operation. Combined, the companies reported annual revenue of €34 million ($42 million) and have a major presence in the northwest region of France.
In April 2017, Paprec acquired Coved Environnement, which resulted in Paprec having more than 200 locations in France, Belgium and Switzerland.
In addition to scrap paper, Paprec Group collects and recycles plastics, construction and demolition materials, electronic scrap, green waste and industrial byproducts. With the acquisition of Coved, the company indicates it became the third largest French company in waste treatment and the largest recycling company.
